
Lady Starlight was a performer Gaga met during this period. Vince Herbert signed Gaga to Streamline Records in 2007 after a performance on Lollapalooza Festival. Gaga signed a music publishing agreement with Sony/ATV after she had been an apprentice writer for Famous Music Publishing. Gaga was hired to create songs for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. In 2008, Gaga released her first album 'The Fame' to little radio attention. Gaga went on tour across Europe and in gay clubs in the US to advertise the album. However, it wasn't until her first single "Just Dance" was brought to mainstream attention in 2009 that Gaga made waves on the scene of music. Gaga was suffering with a hip injury called a labral her right hip. She was taking care of it in secret for several months with the hope of being capable of continuing her tour. She was unable to walk following a performance in Toronto and was in extreme discomfort. The tour was canceled.
